The Confédération Africaine de Football’s (“CAF”) holistic approach to improving the image of African football continues to be rolled out both on and off the field.

In line with Goal 7 of CAF’s Strategic Objectives and building from the FIFA Integrity Summit held in Singapore earlier this year, CAF has invited all its 54 Member Associations for a CAF Integrity Workshop set to be held virtually on Friday, 15 November 2024.

The staging of the workshop - which forms part of CAF’s Integrity Action Plan 2024 – 2027 titled Zero Manipulation Programme, comes at the back of a series of workshops held by CAF in recent months to further protect the integrity  of African football.

During the workshop set to be headed by CAF’s Legal Affairs Division, the invited Integrity Officers will be engaged on key modules relating to improving integrity of the African game.

These include Integrity Action Plan, CAF’s perspective on integrity of football competitions as well as lessons from International Integrity Operations.

The Integrity Officers will also be afforded an opportunity to share experiences from their respective countries on how they can best collaborate with CAF in curbing match manipulation. 

Speaking ahead of Friday’s workshop, CAF’s Director of Legal Affairs, Felix Majani emphasised the importance of having such workshops, adding that it formed part of the building blocks of CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe’s vision of making African football globally competitive.

“The improvement of African football goes beyond the competitiveness on the field of play. Match manipulation negatively affects the growth of African football. It is therefore important for us to have such workshops and play our part in helping to build towards reaching Dr Motsepe’s vision of making African football to be globally competitive through safeguarding the integrity of African football”, said Majani.

The CAF Integrity Workshop’s key success measures in the near future will be: 

• For CAF to develop integrity coordination with Integrity Officers of all 54 Member Associations to address match manipulation and betting issues
• Teams engaged in CAF Interclub competitions to receive an integrity briefing and sign integrity declarations
• All referees of Tier 1 and 2 championships in Africa to receive integrity briefing and sign integrity declarations.
